Job summary

Supabase is seeking a seasoned Database Support Engineer to help developers unblock complex issues, optimize workloads, and improve product quality. You’ll work with PostgreSQL, AWS, and distributed systems, guiding customers and collaborating with engineering in a fast-paced, async environment.

This role emphasizes high-volume troubleshooting, documentation improvements, and mentoring junior teammates while delivering empathetic, clear communication across diverse users.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in technical support, databases, backend engineering, SRE, or similar.
• PostgreSQL deep knowledge: autovacuum, WAL growth, long-running transactions, table bloat.
• Strong in high-performance SQL and query optimization.
• Troubleshooting complex setups, including multi-tenant patterns.
• Ability to debug distributed systems and edge functions.
• Experience with cloud providers like AWS.
• Comfortable in Linux/terminal environments.
• Able to test assumptions quickly in high-volume contexts.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve advanced customer issues across Postgres, Auth, RLS, Storage, Realtime, Edge Functions, and client libraries.
• Provide consultative, proactive advice to optimize workloads and avoid pitfalls.
• Reproduce bugs, isolate root causes, propose workarounds, and escalate with steps.
• Ask smart questions to turn reports into actionable cases.
• Communicate clearly and empathetically with users at all levels.
• Spot patterns across tickets and suggest improvements to docs and tooling.
• Mentor junior team members and raise overall support quality.
