Job summary

SmithRx is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for a 6 month contract to assist members, providers, pharmacies, and internal teams to navigate prescriptions and ensure timely coverage under plan rules. Responsibilities include coordinating prior authorizations, verifying coverage, and triaging questions within established protocols.

Qualified candidates will hold a Pharmacy Technician license with 2–4 years of experience, strong communication, and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.
• Active Pharmacy Technician license required
• 2-4 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician
• Experience in prior authorization review (PBM/health plan) preferred
• Proficiency in Mac, MS Office, G-Suite required
• Critical thinking to navigate complex customized benefit plans to make sound clinical decisions
• Active listening, conversational speaking skills, with a high degree of empathy
• Self-starter with ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time effectively
• Ability to communicate clearly, present complex information to members, clients, pharmacies, providers, and other teams internally
• Ability to work accurately within protocols and follow escalation pathways

Responsibilities

• Verify eligibility and drug coverage under the plan benefit design to determine appropriate claims processing
• Triage the process of clinical review for prior authorization requests
• Review prior authorization and similar requests under protocol with prescriber/pharmacy outreach
• Organize and prioritize multiple requests to ensure timely prior authorization case management
• Build and adjust authorizations under protocol within the claim adjudication system
• Navigate drug products and perform basic calculations to check claims adjudication
• Critically assess and synthesize workflows to make sound clinical decisions
• Coordinate outreach across teams to address questions/escalations
• Evaluate member situations against policies and decide to approve or triage
• Assess when reviews require internal/external review based on protocols
• Reach out to external stakeholders for drug approvals with dollar limits
