Job summary

Sierra Select Distributors, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to join our Finance & Accounting team in California. You will handle accurate biweekly payroll, payroll accounting, reconciliations, and reporting while collaborating with HR and Finance.

You will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax filings, maintain GL accuracy, and support audits and year-end activities. Strong Excel skills and discretion are essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of payroll, payroll accounting, or accounting experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• Strong knowledge of payroll accounting and payroll tax requirements.
• Experience with payroll systems, HRIS platforms, and accounting software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage confidential information professionally.
• Multi-state payroll experience is a plus.
• CPP or FPC certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process biweekly or scheduled payroll accurately and on time.
• Review hours, overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and benefits.
• Reconcile payroll, tax, benefits, and other payroll-related accounts.
• Prepare payroll journal entries and maintain general ledger records.
• Assist with federal, state, and local payroll tax filings and payments.
• Prepare payroll reports for month-end and year-end close.
• Support W-2 preparation, payroll audits, and year-end reconciliation.
• Coordinate with HR on new hires, terminations, compensation changes, and deductions.
• Respond to employee questions regarding payroll and deductions.
• Maintain confidential payroll and financial information.
• Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies promptly.
• Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and internal controls.
