Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Accountant to support accurate and compliant payroll operations in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment. This role is responsible for bi‑weekly payroll processing, payroll system maintenance, audits, reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with company policies and government regulations. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, knowledgeable in payroll regulations, and comfortable serving as a point of contact for employees, timekeepers, and management.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of payroll documents, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues according to established payroll procedures
- Process bi‑weekly payroll and assist with off‑cycle payrolls, including identifying and correcting out‑of‑balance conditions
- Maintain and update employee payroll records, including changes to taxes, garnishments, levies, deductions, insurance coverage, and direct deposits
- Manage employee garnishments and levies, including setup, maintenance, and compliance
- Process terminations and final pay accurately and timely
- Prepare and review payroll tax payments on a bi‑weekly basis
- Prepare employee benefit‑related vendor invoices
- Prepare payroll‑related general ledger entries and ensure accurate posting from sub‑ledger to general ledger
- Reconcile payroll‑related GL accounts
- Assist management in understanding the impact of new payroll regulations and system changes
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in payroll processing in a high‑volume environment
- Strong understanding of payroll regulations, taxes, garnishments, and deductions
- Experience working with payroll and time & labor systems
- Ability to reconcile payroll to the general ledger
- High attention to detail and strong problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain payroll concepts clearly
