Job summary

Ballard Spahr LLP is seeking a Patent Docketing Specialist to join its Intellectual Property practice. The role focuses on managing domestic and foreign patent docketing, maintaining deadlines, and providing reporting support to attorneys and paralegals.

The ideal candidate has 5–7 years of patent docketing experience, deep knowledge of USPTO rules, and meticulous attention to detail. This fully remote position offers a salary range of $80,000–$85,000 plus comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of substantive patent docketing experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
• Experience with USPTO rules, international procedures, and national/regional phase requirements.
• Ability to analyze correspondence, calculate deadlines, and escalate issues appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Maintain docketing databases for domestic and foreign patent matters, entering and monitoring deadlines.
• Review communications to determine actions and deadlines for filing, prosecution, and board matters.
• Verify docketed events for accuracy and escalate discrepancies as needed.
• Prepare monthly/weekly and on-demand docket reports for clients and attorneys.
• Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by the managers.
