Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a qualified Medical Coder for outpatient facility coding. The role is full-time with the option to telecommute nationwide within the U.S. and offers a $3,000 sign-on bonus for external applicants.

Ideal candidates hold AHIMA/AAPC credentials and at least 2 years of ICD-10 and Same Day Surgery coding experience. You will ensure accurate CPT/ICD-10 assignments, apply edits, maintain coding knowledge, and support quality outcomes while adhering to privacy and telecommuting

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED completed.
• Current AHIMA or AAPC credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H) required.
• Minimum 2 years of outpatient facility coding experience.
• Minimum 2 years of Same Day Surgery coding experience.
• Minimum 2 years of ICD-10 coding experience.
• Proficient in Windows, Excel and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Assign CPT/ICD-10 codes for outpatient ambulatory observation per guidelines.
• Review and correct CCI Edits and Medical Necessity Edits.
• Understand APCs and abstract data during chart review as needed.
• Communicate coding feedback to providers and query when appropriate.
• Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge through QM/Director communications.
• Participate in department meetings and educational events.
• Maintain records of coded charts and follow-up on missing items.
• Adhere to ethical standards of coding per AAPC/AHIMA.
• Support a productive, quality-focused coding environment.
