Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an SDS/Observations Medical Coder to work full-time (40 hours) Monday–Friday. You can telecommute from anywhere in the U.S. and will assign CPT/ICD-10 codes for outpatient Ambulatory Observation per guidelines.

Responsibilities include correcting CCI/MN Edits, understanding APC codes, and communicating with providers while maintaining quality and productivity. AHIMA/AAPC credentials and 2+ years of outpatient coding are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Current coding credentials from AHIMA or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H).
• 2+ years of outpatient facility coding experience.
• 2+ years of Same Day Surgery Coding experience.
• 2+ years of ICD-10 experience.
• Proficiency with Windows environment including MS Excel and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify CPT and ICD-10 code assignments for outpatient Ambulatory Observation services in line with official coding guidelines and client guidelines.
• Apply coding knowledge to analyze and correct CCI Edits and Medical Necessity Edits.
• Understand and apply Medicare Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) codes.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding as needed.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity per QM Manager, Coding Operations Managers and Director of Coding/Quality Management.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Keep up-to-date coding knowledge via QM materials and education events.
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
• Review and maintain charts coded/missing as identified by manager.
