Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a SDS/Observations Medical Coder to remotely perform outpatient facility coding, including Ambulatory Observation coding, under standard guidance from the QM team. The role allows telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S. and requires current AHIMA/AAPC credentials plus 2+ years of ICD-10 and same-day surgery coding experience.

The position emphasizes accuracy, adherence to coding guidelines, and ongoing knowledge maintenance with EMR systems and Excel usage.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current AHIMA or AAPC credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H).
• 2+ years of outpatient facility coding experience.
• 2+ years of Same Day Surgery Coding experience.
• 2+ years of ICD-10 experience.
• Proficient with Windows environment including MS Excel and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify assignment of CPT and ICD-10 Codes for outpatient Ambulatory Observation services.
• Analyze and correct CCI Edits and Medical Necessity Edits.
• Understand Medicare Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) codes.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart reviews when coding.
• Adhere to coding ethics per AAPC/AHIMA and internal guidelines.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity per QM Manager and Director.
