Job summary

TEKsystems is hiring remote outpatient medical coders for a 12-month contract to support a long-term government project. The role may extend or convert based on business needs. Must have 2+ years outpatient coding experience and certification from AAPC or AHIMA.

Duties include reviewing records, assigning codes, ensuring compliance, and supporting accurate reimbursement. The position is fully remote with a competitive hourly rate and fringe benefits.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of outpatient medical coding experience.
• Certification from AAPC or AHIMA required.

Responsibilities

• Assign principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures by reviewing medical records.
• Review discharge summaries, notes, radiology and lab results to assign diagnoses and procedures.
• Ensure correct code selection following Official Coding Guidelines and regulations.
• Determine DRG/APC or payment tier under PPS for accurate reimbursement.
• Review coding for accuracy before submission to billing.
• Abstract demographic information and correct any data errors in the system.
• Identify incomplete documentation and obtain clarification via physician queries.
