Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking remote inpatient medical coders for a 12-month contract to support a government project. The role focuses on assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for complex inpatient records, ensuring POA accuracy, and collaborating with the CDI team. It offers potential extension or conversion based on business needs and performance.

Must hold active CCS, CIC, RHIA, or RHIT certifications and have 3+ years of inpatient coding experience. Remote position with competitive hourly pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of inpatient ICD-10-CM/PCS coding experience.
• POA assignment and quality metrics knowledge.
• Experience with CDI collaboration and documentation improvement processes.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for complex inpatient visits using clinical documentation.
• Determine POA values for secondary diagnoses for quality reporting.
• Review provider notes and CDI insights to finalize diagnoses and MS/DRG determinations.
• Use 3M 360 CAC to review and annotate codes with autosuggestion.
• Validate Discharge Disposition with Medicare guidelines and post-acute transfers.
• Sequence codes within top 24 fields for DRG accuracy and reimbursement.
• Educate CDI on coding clinics, guidelines and conventions.
• Interpret records to identify principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures.
• Follow ICD-10-CM/PCS guidelines and coding conventions to ensure compliant coding.
• Write appeal letters in response to payor DRG downgrades and resolve coding alerts.
• Meet productivity and quality standards.
