Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Outpatient Coder II to specialize in HB Coding for complex outpatient encounters—including observation stays and Same Day Surgery. The role emphasizes accurate ICD-10-CM, HCPCS and CPT coding, with a focus on 95% accuracy and 90% productivity per protocol.

The position is full-time with a daytime schedule and remote work allowed, requiring residency in IL, IN, IA, WI, OH, MO, MI, or FL. A sign-on bonus may be available for internal candidates.

Qualifications

• Credentialed by the AHIMA (RHIT, RHIA or CCS).
• 3-4 years of coding experience in an acute healthcare setting.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes to outpatient encounters.
• Review records to ensure accurate documentation and coding.
• Interpret medical records using anatomy, physiology and pharmacology knowledge.
• Provide physician queries for documentation clarification when needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve CAC and coding processes.
