Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
• Additional specialty coding certification required or Bachelor's Degree required.
• 2+ years college or coursework in Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration or Medical Record Sciences preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identifies all diagnostic and operative procedures for coding by reviewing the medical record.
• Assigns diagnostic and procedural codes in accordance with coding principles and guidelines.
• May analyze provider documentation to assign or verify CPT codes.
• Verifies and/or requests documentation to support compliance.
• Performs a comprehensive review of the documentation to ensure necessary elements are present.
• Interacts with medical staff via physician queries for clarification of documentation.
