Job summary

San José State University is seeking an Online Student Success Advisor to support enrollment, retention, and engagement for SJSU Online students. This remote-in-state California role involves advising, progress monitoring, proactive outreach, and connection to campus resources to foster student success.

Under supervision, you will support onboarding, assessment processes, and University initiatives on retention and graduation while coordinating with the Managing Director and Center team.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field.
• Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field. A master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and maintain remote communication with students.

Responsibilities

• Provide holistic academic advising and support to online students.
• Implement proactive advising to establish ongoing relationships with regular meetings and progress tracking.
• Assist students with goal setting, time management, and study skills.
• Orient students to degree requirements, planning tools, and university resources.
• Identify barriers to success and develop action plans to improve completion.
• Provide student-centered communication via email, phone, and video conferencing.
• Collaborate to develop outreach plans to help new students navigate onboarding.
