Job summary

San José State University is seeking a Senior Academic Advisor for the Exploratory Student Success Center. This role provides holistic academic advising and success coaching to former students returning to university. The advisor will support persistence, develop programming, and employ data-driven strategies to track student progress and facilitate timely interventions.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field.
• Three years of progressively responsible student services experience.
• Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide holistic academic advising and success coaching.
• Assist students in creating individualized academic goals.
• Guide students in navigating institutional procedures.
• Monitor student progress using case management systems.
• Develop and implement workshops to enhance academic skills.
• Analyze advising data to improve processes and outcomes.

Skills

Knowledge of student development theories

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Proficiency in case management tools

Ability to organize and manage multiple projects

Education

Bachelor's degree in related field

Master's degree in Counseling or related area (preferred)
