Job summary

NuScale Power, LLC is seeking an experienced SAUG Thermal-Hyd-Halics Engineer for remote work within the contiguous United States. The role focuses on executing VIPRE subchannel analyses, RELAP system TH evaluations, LOCA/transient assessments, and licensing support across customer projects.

The engineer will mentor junior staff, interface with core design and other disciplines, and contribute to licensing reports and regulatory interactions while upholding NuScale's safety culture and design

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from a four-year accredited college; advanced degree desirable.
• Minimum 8 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience in subchannel TH, transient analysis, and safety analysis.
• Experience with RELAP5 required; eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and verify VIPRE subchannel analyses, including CHF predictions and margin evaluations.
• Prepare and verify RELAP system-level TH evaluations (LOCA, non-LOCA transients, design-basis evaluations).
• Evaluate designs and operating features to ensure safety margins and performance objectives, recommending design changes as needed.
• Lead cross-functional TH reviews for reload safety analyses and licensing deliverables.
• Develop and maintain licensed TH methods and modeling standards; assess method applicability and code updates.
• Translate licensed methods into regulatory frameworks for international customers; adapt TH methodologies to country-specific expectations.
• Collaborate within Nuclear Fuels to manage interfaces with core/fuel design and subchannel TH.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and lead complex analyses.
• Contribute to licensing reports, applications, and regulator interactions; prepare engineering reports and calculations.
• Develop innovative solutions to complex challenges with minimal oversight.
