Job summary

Point Foundation seeks a hands-on Controller to run daily finance operations and build scalable infrastructure for growth. You will partner with the CFO to close monthly books, prepare financial reports, and keep the organization audit-ready.

Remote position based in the greater Los Angeles area with occasional in-person meetings and relocation support. You’ll lead process improvements, automate workflows with AI, and ensure scholarship funds reach scholars accurately and on time.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of accounting experience
• 3+ years of nonprofit fund accounting experience
• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional experience in lieu of a degree
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks Online, plus Microsoft Office
• Experience with AP and payment platforms such as Bill.com, and using AI tools to streamline work
• Systems-first mindset for improving processes and tools
• Strong financial reporting and data analysis, able to explain to non-finance colleagues
• Experience coordinating an annual financial audit
• Strategic thinking about scaling finance operations and data governance
• Hands-on working style with staff development experience

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounts payable, scholarship and grant payments, AmEx and other card charges, and payroll entries
• Reconcile cash and investments weekly and monthly
• Partner with CFO to close books and prepare reports
• Ensure scholarship funds disburse on schedule and support scholars
• Audit readiness: document controls and coordinate with external auditors
• Lead automation and AI initiatives to reduce repetitive work
• Coordinate financial practices with other departments to support growth
• Supervise one coordinator-level staff member
