Job summary

Come and See is seeking a Controller to own the accounting operation behind its mission in Colorado Springs, CO or remote (U.S.). This hands-on leadership role will manage the close, controls, audit, and financial reporting for a not-for-profit, ensuring timely, accurate statements under US GAAP (ASC 958) and robust internal controls.

You will lead the accounting team, implement AI-enabled tools for reconciliations and reporting, and coordinate with the CFO and Board.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting and CPA license required.
• 7+ years of accounting experience, including 5+ in not-for-profit.
• Experience leading accounting staff and not-for-profit GAAP (ASC 958).
• Ownership of full-cycle monthly close and external audits.
• Experience designing internal controls in a lean org with segregation of duties.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close for not-for-profits under US GAAP.
• Manage general ledger, COA, net asset classification, and expense allocation.
• Lead reporting and budgeting; coordinate with CFO, Board Finance/Audit Committee.
• Handle contributions, grants, royalties, rebates, and complex transactions.
• Maintain donor CRM linkage with GL and project-level accounting.
• Lead annual external audit as primary contact.
• Design and enforce internal controls over financial reporting.
• Maintain compliance with charitable solicitations, state taxes, and multi-state registrations.
• Authorize payroll and review payroll registers.
• Oversee accounts payable, expenses, corporate cards, vendor master, and 1099s.
• Coach accounting team and back-up CFO role.
• Modernize finance systems with AI-enabled automation.
