Job summary

Charter School Business Management is seeking a fully remote Nonprofit Controller to oversee the finances of a portfolio of charter school and nonprofit clients. The role emphasizes accrual and cash-based accounting, client consulting, and collaboration with audit firms.

The candidate brings 8+ years in accounting/financial management, experience managing teams, and a background in nonprofit or education-related organizations. A Bachelor’s degree and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of accounting, financial reporting, and financial management experience.
• 3+ years prior experience managing and prioritizing the work of direct reports or project team members.
• Prior experience working in a non-profit organization is required.
• Prior experience working in a school or socially responsible organization is required.
• Prior management of multiple projects and clients is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Excel, Anybill.com, QuickBooks, Intacct, FundEZ, or similar accounting software, Payroll Management Software (ADP, Paychex, or similar)

Responsibilities

• Act as nonprofit controller for a portfolio of clients, including charter schools and nonprofits.
• Oversee accounting, finance, team performance, and client consulting activities.
• Manage multiple clients virtually and escalate issues as needed.
• Coordinate with auditors and oversee audit packages.
• Present financial results and recommendations to client leadership and boards.
