Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking a senior leader in transfusion medicine to deliver expert medical consultation, education, and policy direction across hospital partners and internal programs. The role emphasizes clinical leadership, donor and patient safety, and regulatory oversight.

Qualifications

• MD or DO required with post-graduate training in blood banking/transfusion medicine
• Board certification or eligibility in internal medicine, pediatrics, or clinical pathology required
• Board certification/eligibility in transfusion medicine desirable
• Current state licenses and specialty boards may be required
• Minimum 10 years of related experience in transfusion medicine or related fields
• Strong immunohematology knowledge including serology, antibody identification and compatibility testing

Responsibilities

• Provide medical consultation in transfusion medicine, blood banking and patient services to hospital customers
• Provide continuing medical education on safe use of blood components
• Direct patient service programs including apheresis and stem cell collection
• Oversee medical aspects of regulated blood center operations
• Develop procedures and policies on donor eligibility and safety
• Serve as CLIA Laboratory Director for regulated activities
• Investigate donor and recipient concerns and ensure proper reporting
