Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking a Medical Officer to lead medical oversight for Therapeutic Apheresis and Cellular Therapeutics (TCS) and regional transfusion medicine operations. This 100% remote role collaborates with teams across the Eastern time zone and requires travel for business needs.

You will serve as a primary medical consultant, guide program development, ensure regulatory compliance, and advance donor and product safety in cellular therapies.

Qualifications

• MD/DO with Board Certification in Transfusion Medicine or Hematology/Oncology.
• Proven leadership in expanding clinical programs and driving innovation.
• Knowledge of FDA regulations governing HCT/Ps and cellular therapies.

Responsibilities

• Direct medical strategy and operations for regulated cellular therapies (HPCs, CAR-T, Leukopaks).
• Partner with executive leadership to expand collection footprints and optimize production of cellular products.
• Contribute to expansion of cellular services through outreach, partnerships and new programs.
• Serve as the program’s medical office representative at committees and as medical liaison for biotech partners with guidance on donor eligibility and clinical trials.
• Provide medical oversight for transfer of client-specific protocols from research to clinical-grade production.
• Oversee medical aspects of donor management, recipient adverse reactions, and product investigations.
• Deliver continuing medical education to internal and external audiences on safe use of blood components.
