Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking an experienced TCS Medical Director to lead medical office engagement and provide expert clinical oversight for cellular therapies. This 100% remote role aligns with teams in the Eastern Standard time zone, with some onsite presence and travel as needed.

MD/DO with board certification in Transfusion Medicine or Hematology/Oncology is required, plus 5+ years in cell therapy/HSCT. FACT/AABB accreditation knowledge and FDA regulatory familiarity are preferred.

Qualifications

• MD/DO with Board Certification in Transfusion Medicine or Hematology/Oncology.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Cell Therapy and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT).
• Familiarity with FACT accreditation processes and AABB standards.
• Knowledge of FDA regulations governing HCT/Ps.
• Experience leading program development and regulatory accreditation.
• Willingness to travel; remote work in EST; some onsite travel.

Responsibilities

• Direct medical strategy and operations for regulated cellular therapies (HPCs, CAR‑T, Leukopaks).
• Collaborate with executive leadership to expand collection footprints and production of starting materials.
• Contribute to development of new programs and support of sales teams.
• Serve as medical office representative on committees at institutional, regional, and national levels.
• Liaise with biotech partners on donor eligibility, product specs, and trial alignment.
• Oversee transfer of protocols from research to clinical-grade production.
• Investigate donor/recipient concerns and service complaints with timely leadership notification.
• Provide medical consultation in transfusion medicine and blood banking.
• Oversee donor management, recipient adverse reactions, and product investigations.
• Act as CLIA director for a regional immunohematology reference lab where applicable.
