Job summary

American Red Cross is seeking a Therapeutic and Cellular Solutions Medical Director to lead medical strategy for regulated cellular therapies and to partner with executives on program growth and regulatory compliance. The role combines clinical leadership with program development across HPCs, CAR-T, and donor materials.

Qualifications

• MD/DO with Board Certification in Transfusion Medicine or Hematology/Oncology.
• 5+ years' experience in Cell Therapy and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, negotiable.
• Experience with FACT accreditation processes and AABB Standards for cellular therapy.
• Knowledge of FDA regulations governing HCT/Ps.
• Demonstrated leadership in program development with regulatory accreditation.
• Ability to lead strategic growth and manage multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Direct medical strategy and operations for regulated cellular therapies (HPCs, CAR-T, Leukopaks).
• Policy development for cell collection, storage, and infusion.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to expand collection footprints and production.
• Support outreach, partnerships, program development, and sales teams as needed.
• Serve as medical liaison for biotech partners and donor eligibility guidance.
• Oversee transfer of protocols from research to clinical-grade production.
• Provide regional medical consultation in transfusion medicine and donor management.
• Oversee CLIA-regulated operations and immunohematology reference lab duties as applicable.
• Deliver CME to internal/external audiences; ensure safe use of blood components.
