Baystate Health is seeking a Medical Coding Specialist to join our Quality Coding team in a fully remote capacity. The role involves assigning ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes, abstracting medical records, and ensuring compliant documentation across multiple systems.

Qualified candidates have an Associate’s degree in Medical Terminology and preferred Certified Coding Specialist credentials; enjoy strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and collaborative communication with clinical and billing

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Medical Terminology is required.
• Certified Coding Specialist AHIMA preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze medical records to assign ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
• Abstract and enter codes and demographic information into electronic systems.
• Identify and resolve incomplete or missing documentation for timely billing.
• Educate staff on coding practices and documentation requirements.
• Participate in quality assurance, performance measurement, and coding improvement initiatives.
• Monitor coding activity and report backlogs or irregularities to leadership.
• Collaborate with coding and billing teams to promote accuracy and efficiency.
• Maintain knowledge of coding regulations and payer requirements.
• Attend meetings and professional development opportunities.
• Follow departmental policies and health and safety requirements.
