Job summary

American Oncology Network (AON) is seeking a skilled Medical Coder with a focus on oncology to ensure accurate coding and documentation across surgical and hospital claims. You will work with Centricity EMR, review operative reports, and assign CPT/ICD codes for billing and records, ensuring compliance and timely daily submissions.

The role requires at least a high school diploma, 3+ years of medical coding experience, and oncology CPT/ICD coding expertise.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Three or more years of medical coding experience preferred.
• Two years of ICD & Oncology CPT coding in oncology is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare setting or clinical/billing office.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Procedure entry with operative report extraction and coding guidelines preferred.
• Education to stay current with CPT and ICD-9/ICD-10 updates required.
• AAPC Coding Certification (CPC or ROCC) preferred; must obtain within two years if not held.
• Centricity experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all surgical and hospital claims processed through EMR and Centricity are correct and compliant.
• Ensure proper documentation is on file.
• Ensure physicians in assigned area are compliant with dictations and documentation of treatment.
• Assign all charts are coded and billed daily.
• Assign medical codes for general surgery procedures for medical records and billing.
• Review medical records and assign codes for procedures and diagnoses.
• Enter all billable charges into the billing system.
• Work with site to obtain required documentation for review.
• Escalate trends and documentation issues to manager for discussion.
