Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years of medical coding experience preferred.
• 2+ years of ICD & Oncology CPT coding in designated area of oncology preferred.
• Healthcare setting experience in clinical or business office environments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Education to stay current with CPT and ICD updates yearly.
• AAPC CPC or ROCC certification strongly preferred; if not held, must obtain within 1 year of assignment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure surgical and hospital claims processed through EMR and Centricity are correct and compliant.
• Ensure proper documentation is on file.
• Ensure physicians in assigned area comply with dictations and patient treatment documentation.
• Assigns medical codes for general surgery procedures for records and billing.
• Review medical records and assign codes for procedures and diagnoses.
• Enter all billable charges into the billing system.
• Coordinate with site to obtain required documentation for review.
• Escalate trends and documentation issues to manager for discussion.
