Central Georgia Cancer Care is seeking a skilled medical coder to ensure accurate coding of surgical and hospital claims using EMR and Centricity. The role emphasizes documenting and coding procedures and diagnoses to support timely billing and compliance.

The ideal candidate has strong oncology coding background, healthcare experience, and ability to maintain up-to-date CPT/ICD knowledge, with a preference for Centricity and oncology-specific EMR familiarity.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum of five (3) years of medical coding experience preferred.
  • Two (2) years of ICD & Oncology CPT coding in designated area/oncology preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare, clinical settings or business office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Proficiency in operative report entry and coding guidelines preferred.
  • Must stay current with CPT/ICD-9/ICD-10 yearly updates.
  • AAPC CPC or ROCC certification strongly preferred; required within 1–2 years if not held.
  • Centricity experience preferred; oncology EMR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure surgical and hospital claims processed through EMR and Centricity are correct and compliant.
  • Maintain proper documentation on file for all patients.
  • Ensure physicians in the area comply with dictations and documentation for treatment.
  • Code assigned charts and bill daily.
  • Assign medical codes for procedures and diagnoses for medical records and billing.
  • Review medical records to assign codes for each procedure and diagnosis.
  • Enter all billable charges into the billing system.
  • Coordinate with site to obtain necessary documentation for review and escalation of issues.

Location:

Pay Range:

$19.66 - $34.59

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for ensuring all surgical and hospital claims processed through EMR and Centricity are correct and compliant. Ensure proper documentation is on file. Ensure all physicians in assigned area of responsibility are complaint with dictations, and documentation with patient's treatment. To ensure all assigned charts are coded and billed out daily. Assigns medical codes for general surgery procedures for medical records and billing purposes. As part of your duties, you look at medical records and information and assign codes for each procedure and diagnosis for each patient. Ensure that all billable charges are entered into billing system. Work with site to ensure that all required documentation is obtained for review process. Escalate any trend and documentation issues to manager for discussion.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of five (3) years of medical coding experience preferred.
  • Two (2) years of ICD & Oncology CPT Coding in designated area of expertise/oncology is preferred.
  • Experience with working in a healthcare field and in a clinical setting or business office.
  • Excellent verbal and communications skills are essential.
  • Procedure entry with experience in operative report extraction and coding guidelines are preferred.
  • Education to stay current with all CPT and ICD9/ ICD10 yearly updates is required.
  • AAPC Coding Certification (CPC or ROCC coding certification) including in the designated area of oncology coding is strongly preferred.
  • Individuals who do not hold this certification must obtain within two (1) year of being assigned to this position.
  • Centricity experience preferred. Experience in designated oncology EMR is preferred.
