Job summary

University Medical Billing (UMB) is a fully remote department serving the University of Utah School of Medicine. We seek a Medical Coder II to analyze and translate medical data into codes for billing and planning.

This mid-level role requires compliance with HIPAA, strong terminology knowledge, and the ability to work during standard office hours (M-F, 8am–5pm Mountain Time). Employment is contingent on background check and adherence to Telecommuting Agreement; candidates must provide two

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year working in medical billing.
• AHIMA or AAPC Certification required.
• Proven experience working from home effectively.
• Abstract reasoning and problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Review charges and identify missing or incomplete documentation.
• Code multiple/subspecialty services and assign appropriate coding classification.
• Use coding resources to code episodes of care in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Resolve coding and charging issues in Epic work queues.
• Apply regulatory guidelines to coding and reimbursement decisions.
• Abstract medical and administrative data and verify identifiers.
• Meet productivity expectations and perform other duties as assigned.
