Job summary

UTHealth Houston is hiring a Professional Coder I to join Revenue Cycle - Charging Code and Capture. The coder will review documentation to assign CPT/HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and modifiers for clinic and hospital encounters, applying coding rules and guidelines.

The role requires coding accuracy, ability to resolve edits in Epic, and ongoing education to stay compliant with regulatory standards. Minimum education is a high school diploma, with RHIT/CCS/CPC/CCS-P/RCC credentials preferred.

Qualifications

• Proficient in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding conventions.
• Ability to interpret medical documentation and apply coding rules.
• Experience with Epic or similar EHR systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review medical documentation to assign and sequence CPT/HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and modifiers.
• Resolve coding edits in Epic and related systems.
• Generate physician queries and ensure compliance with guidelines.
• Enter charges for professional services and assist with billing data abstraction.
• Stay current with coding guidelines and department procedures.
