Job summary

Methodist Medical Group is seeking a professional medical coder to review documentation and assign CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes for professional services. You will engage in research and educational activities within.MMHealthcare provider community to enhance accuracy and payment.

The role involves reviewing inpatient and outpatient charges across cardiology and related specialties, interpreting medical records, and educating providers on coding and documentation.

Qualifications

• Core coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA: CPC, CCS-P required; CCC preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree is an asset.
• Minimum two years of professional coding experience or one year plus two years of HCC experience.
• Strong knowledge of CMS manuals, federal and regulatory guidelines and correct coding policies.
• Experience in electronic medical record software, preferably Epic.
• Ability to communicate written and oral coding information to healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

• Review charges inpatient and outpatient for various specialties and assign CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 codes with modifiers and units.
• Research coding inquiries and educate providers on coding and documentation.
• Work queues for specialties (Cardiology, Orthopedics, Transplant, etc.) and ensure timely submissions.
• Maintain 90%+ coding accuracy and department productivity.
• Participate in education programs and monthly department meetings.
• Support timely submission to payers and continuous process improvement.
