Job summary

Methodist Medical Group is seeking a professional coder to review medical records and assign CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes for professional services. The role focuses on cardiology and cardiothoracic coding with opportunities to engage in research and education to improve accuracy and reimbursement.

The coder will handle inpatient and outpatient charges, work queues, and collaborate with healthcare professionals. Remote work is available after an initial on-site training period.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree is an asset.
• A minimum of two years of professional coding experience or one year plus two years of HCC experience.
• Strong knowledge of CMS manuals, federal/regulatory guidelines and correct coding policies.
• Independently disciplined in time management and productivity.
• Experience with electronic medical record software, preferably Epic.
• Microsoft Office proficient; ability to communicate coding information to providers.

Responsibilities

• Review inpatient and outpatient charges for Cardiology and Cardiothoracic providers.
• Read and interpret medical records to assign CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 codes, modifiers and units.
• Research coding inquiries and educate providers on proper coding and documentation.
• Handle specialty work queues including Trauma, Orthopedics, GI/Bariatrics, Transplant, Cardiology, ENT, Radiation Oncology or General Surgery.
• Review and correct edits in payer work queues for timely submission.
• Participate in education programs and department meetings.
• Maintain 90% coding accuracy and required production.
