Job summary

Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc. is seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer to design, optimize, and streamline complex systems across people, machines, materials, and information, maximizing productivity and minimizing waste.

This remote role prefers candidates near locations for on-site meetings. You will analyze workflows, conduct time studies, and design facility layouts, leveraging CAD tools and Lean Six Sigma to drive cost control and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, including building design, plant layout development, workflow optimization, and operational support.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and process simulation software.
• Strong knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
• Excellent problem-solving, data analysis, and communication skills.
• Ability to travel is a must; approximately 50% travel is expected.

Responsibilities

• Analyze existing workflows, production schedules, and processes to find inefficiencies
• Work with the Project Manager, contractors, local operations staff, and/or suppliers on new equipment supply, installation & upgrades, as well as improvements on older equipment
• Design efficient floor plans and facility layouts using CAD or simulation software
• Conduct time and motion studies to establish accurate labor standards
• Implement Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement (Six Sigma) initiatives to reduce waste
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and management to present data-driven recommendations
• Evaluate equipment performance and collaborate with maintenance teams to improve machine reliability and reduce downtime
