Job summary

American Family Insurance is seeking a paralegal-like professional to support defined phases of litigation and non-litigation work under attorney supervision. Remote in the Portland, OR metro area, with relocation support for eligible candidates and an hourly compensation range.

The role involves trial prep, drafting pleadings and discovery documents, organizing medical records, and assisting with depositions and hearings.

Qualifications

Experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
Experience performing legal research and gathering medical records, indexing depositions and preparing exhibits.
Experience preparing pleadings, motions, deposition summaries, discovery responses, and other legal correspondence.
Knowledge of insurance, legal ethics rules and maintaining confidentiality.
Experience with PC software and legal research tools and trial applications (e.g. Westlaw, Trial Pad).
Knowledge of tort and contract law, legal procedures and the judicial system.

Responsibilities

Assist attorney in trial preparation.
Draft pleadings, discovery documents, motions, deposition summaries and legal memorandums under supervision.
Aid in organizing and summarizing medical records for discovery and trial prep.
Conduct investigations and discovery under limited supervision.
Draft discovery responses and assist in witness prep and demonstrative evidence.
Support complex depositions, hearings and trials as needed.
Represent insured or company in small claims where jurisdiction allows.
Review files to determine issues and possible settlements.
