Job summary

American Family Insurance is seeking a legally oriented professional to support attorneys through trial preparation, discovery, and drafting pleadings. This role, based in the Portland area with remote work options, offers hourly compensation and opportunities to engage in complex depositions and hearings.

You will assist with organizing medical records, conducting investigations, and preparing exhibits, while maintaining confidentiality and complying with insurance industry ethics.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience performing legal research, investigations and summarizing medical records.
• Experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery responses and other legal documents with minimal supervision.
• Ability to organize, summarize and evaluate medical records for discovery and trial prep.
• Familiarity with insurance industry ethics and confidentiality requirements.
• Proficiency with PC software and trial applications (Westlaw, Trial Pad, Office).
• Understanding of tort and contract law, legal procedures and terminology.

Responsibilities

• Assist attorney in trial preparation.
• Draft pleadings, discovery documents, motions, deposition summaries, abstracts, correspondence and legal memorandums under supervision.
• Aid in organization and evaluation of medical records for discovery and trial prep.
• Conduct investigations and discovery under limited supervision.
• Draft discovery responses and assist in witness prep for trials.
• Support attorneys in complex depositions, hearings and trials as needed.
• Represent insured or company in small claims/conciliation court where applicable by jurisdiction.
