American Family Insurance Agency Staff seeks a legal support professional to assist attorneys in trial preparation and discovery under close supervision in the Portland metro area. The role emphasizes drafting pleadings, discovery documents, and organizing medical records for trial readiness.

You will report to a manager, legal services, with remote work options in Portland, OR, and an hourly compensation range.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering customer-driven solutions or services.
• Experience performing legal research, investigations, and summarizing medical records for trial prep.
• Experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery responses, deposition summaries, and legal correspondence with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of insurance, legal ethics rules, and maintaining confidentiality.
• Experience with PC software and trial applications (e.g., MS Office, Westlaw, Trial Pad).
• Knowledge of tort and contract law and basic judicial procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist attorney in trial preparation.
• Draft pleadings, discovery documents, motions, deposition summaries, abstracts, correspondence and legal memorandums under supervision.
• Aid in organizing, summarizing and evaluating medical records for discovery and trial prep.
• Conduct investigations and discovery under limited supervision.
• Draft discovery responses and assist in preparing witnesses and demonstrative evidence for trial.
• Assist in complex depositions, hearings, and trials as needed.
• Represent insured or company in small claims where applicable by jurisdiction.
• Review files to determine issues and potential settlements.
