Job summary

Canonical is seeking a Software Support Engineer to work remotely across time zones, addressing complex issues in Ubuntu, kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes and related open source software. You will collaborate with field, support and product engineering teams, and contribute upstream fixes as needed.

The role emphasizes troubleshooting, deep-diving into difficult issues, and strong communication across global teams, with occasional international travel and active participation in open source

Qualifications

• Strong Linux and open source software experience.
• Experience programming on Linux in Python/Go/C/C++.
• Proven drive to learn unfamiliar tech and troubleshoot complex issues.
• Willingness to travel up to 4 times per year for internal events.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, kernel, Ceph, OpenStack or Kubernetes.
• Collaborate with Canonical Field, Support and product engineering teams; participate in upstream communities.
• Develop bug fixes, backport patches, and coordinate with upstream projects.
• Review code produced by other engineers.
• Work from home with international travel up to 10% for meetings, events and conferences.
