Job summary

Manulife/John Hancock is seeking a remote Life Underwriting Auditor to conduct detailed audits of underwriting initiatives, evaluate decision quality, and provide actionable insights to align with pricing, mortality assumptions, and regulatory requirements.

You will review medical and financial underwriting decisions, collaborate with risk and underwriting leadership, and help implement corrective action plans and training to improve governance and risk controls.

Qualifications

• Several years (typically 5+ years) of experience in life insurance underwriting, with medical and financial underwriting expertise.
• Strong understanding of underwriting guidelines and risk selection principles.
• Ability to interpret complex medical/financial information and assess risk.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills for reporting findings.

Responsibilities

• Conduct post issue audits and monitoring of underwriting initiatives for technical accuracy and guideline adherence.
• Review underwriting decisions for medical, financial, and operational soundness against guidelines and mortality assumptions.
• Identify trends in audit results and prepare clear reports and management recommendations.
• Collaborate with Underwriting Management and Risk Management on CAPs and remediation progress.
• Support enhancement of the Underwriting Risk Control Framework, including KRIs and governance standards.
• Translate audit findings into training and guideline clarifications with Training & Development.
• Test and evaluate impact of new tools, rules engines, and GenAI on underwriting quality and risk.
• Assist design and execution of targeted audits for Underwriting Innovation initiatives.
• Ensure audit documentation is complete for internal audits and regulatory review.
• Contribute to ongoing continuous improvement of audit frameworks and reporting.
