Job summary

Aretum is seeking a Lead Software Engineer/Developer to serve as the hands-on technical lead of an Agile scrum team supporting a federal content management program. This backend-focused role centers on Python/Django services, REST APIs, and ETL pipelines to exchange digital content and metadata across enterprise systems.

You will guide a mid-level developer, collaborate with government leads, and ensure secure, scalable code while maintaining existing Java components where needed.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of professional software development experience with technical lead or senior role.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
• Proven ability to lead technical designs, conduct peer code reviews, and mentor mid-level developers.
• Hands-on backend development with Python and Django, and REST API design.
• Experience maintaining Java components and working with AWS, Terraform, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead of an Agile scrum team delivering backend Python/Django services.
• Design, develop, and test Python and Django REST APIs and ETL components.
• Implement content transfer, metadata transformation, and workflow automation across systems.
• Build and optimize PostgreSQL schemas and queries for content management and auditing.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers, coordinate with government leads, and ensure code quality and security.
