Job summary

Aretum is seeking a Lead Software Engineer/Developer to serve as the hands-on technical lead of an Agile scrum team supporting a large-scale federal digital content management and systems integration program. This is a backend-focused role with Python and Django at the core.

You will guide a mid-level developer, coordinate with government leads, and ensure high quality, secure code delivery across complex content exchange workflows, including ETL and API integration.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience.
• Experience as a technical lead on an Agile team.
• Proven ability to design and mentor, with backend focus in Python/Django.
• Strong Java proficiency to maintain existing components.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and search tools (Solr/Elasticsearch).
• Experience deploying in AWS with Terraform for IaC.
• Proficiency with REST APIs and ETL pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead of a scrum team delivering Python/Django backend services.
• Develop REST APIs, ETL pipelines, and metadata workflows for content management.
• Design data models and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, queries, and indexes.
• Coordinate with government leads, test teams, and stakeholders.
• Maintain and extend Java components where needed and ensure code quality.
• Implement secure content transfer, auditing, and workflow governance.
