Job summary

Avalon Healthcare Solutions is seeking a Knowledge Engineer to bridge the business with agentic AI systems. You will elicit data, rules, and workflows, translate them into machine-readable artifacts, and maintain auditable knowledge assets.

This role collaborates with data and AI teams to ensure accurate context and guardrails for AI agents. Remote work is eligible, with quarterly travel to Avalon's Tampa, Florida office.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience eliciting requirements and documenting business processes with non-technical and clinical stakeholders.
• Translate complex clinical, operational, and regulatory requirements into practical, well-documented solutions.
• Strong, hands-on SQL skills with ability to profile, query, audit, and validate data independently.
• Experience developing audit, quality measurement, or defect identification logic.
• Experience creating process flow, workflow, and current-state/future-state documentation.
• Experience building reporting or dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, or SSRS.
• Superior written communication and documentation skills.
• Excellent facilitation and interviewing skills.
• Working understanding of large language models and agentic AI concepts.
• Ability to work with ambiguity, structure undefined problems, and drive decisions to closure.
• Desire to learn new software, techniques and methods.

Responsibilities

• Elicit and document data, business rules, workflows, and institutional knowledge from business owners and SMEs.
• Create current-state and future-state process documentation and decision trees.
• Translate requirements into structured, machine-readable artifacts and taxonomies.
• Contribute to semantic layers and context artifacts for AI systems.
• Coordinate unstructured content for ingestion and AI retrieval.
• Reconcilie conflicting definitions and drive single source of truth.
• Assist in defining agent scope, guardrails, and escalation paths.
• Design and maintain SQL-based audit logic and gold-standard QA pairs.
• Audit agent output against expectations and identify root causes.
• Build dashboards in Power BI/Tableau/Streamlit to visualize performance and audits.
• Maintain a versioned, auditable knowledge base with governance.
• Collaborate with Snowflake engineers on data ingestion and access needs.
• Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort via automation.
• Support pilots, PoCs, and production AI knowledge-driven apps.
• Develop training materials and lead sessions for business users.
• Collaborate across projects and maintain attention to detail.
