Job summary

Avalon Healthcare Solutions is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead the design, development, and delivery of platforms within a scaled agile Scrum organization. The role blends hands-on PoC work with strategic leadership to advance AI-enabled solutions aligned with business goals.

Reporting to the AVP, this role requires 10+ years in IT, strong AWS, SAFe, and healthcare interoperability expertise, and the ability to manage geographically dispersed teams, including offshore

Qualifications

• 10+ years IT experience in applications design and development; 5+ years in IT management/leadership.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science; MS or equivalent experience.
• AWS knowledge required: hands-on familiarity with core services, deployment models and security posture.
• AI adoption: demonstrated experience introducing AI into engineering workflows in regulated environments.
• Hands-on capability: build proofs of concept and prototypes independently; production coding not required.
• Prior healthcare experience required.
• Experience building healthcare interoperability (HL7, EDI, FHIR).
• Extensive experience leading agile scrum teams; SAFe experience.
• Managing 3rd party partners and vendors; leading geographically dispersed teams.

Responsibilities

• Technology leader and thought partner to Avalon.
• Design, development, management, and implementation of organizational information systems and software.
• Act as technology SME for internal constituents, customers, and prospects.
• Develop and mentor direct reports and raise engagement within Software Engineering.
• Remain hands-on at PoC level building prototypes, spikes, and AI-assisted proofs of concept.
• Collaborate with Product, Operations, Client Success, Data, and Compliance to align priorities and deliver cross-functional outcomes.
