Job summary

American Rivers is seeking a Junior Staff Accountant to support the Finance and Accounting team in ensuring GAAP-compliant transactions and timely recording. The role reports to the Director of Finance & Accounting and works across accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger duties in a remote setting.

Required is a Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance, strong attention to detail, and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Internship in nonprofit accounting is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field desired.
• Internship or relevant coursework experience is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with accounts payable, vendor setup, and coding.
• Record and reconcile receivables and grant reimbursements.
• Prepare journal entries, month-end closings, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support compliance with GAAP and IRS/OMB requirements.
• Assist with audits, schedules, and grant-related reconciliations.
