Job summary

American Rivers is seeking a Junior Staff Accountant to support the Finance & Accounting team in a remote role. You will help ensure GAAP-compliant recording of transactions and assist with A/P, A/R, GL, and grant-related reconciliations.

The role reports to the Director of Finance & Accounting and requires strong attention to detail, disciplined organization, and proactive collaboration with dispersed teams. Beneficial are accounting internship experience and proficiency in MS Office and Adobe.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required or desirable.
• Internship or coursework experience in accounting is a plus.
• Self-motivated with ability to work remotely.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to take initiative and follow through on assignments.
• Team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate remotely.
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe software.
• Reliable high-speed internet and dedicated home workspace.

Responsibilities

• Provide GAAP-compliant accounting support to the Finance team.
• Handle accounts payable and vendor documentation with proper approvals.
• Record and reconcile grant reimbursements and receivables.
• Assist with general ledger entries and month-end closes.
• Support audits and compliance with IRS/OMB regulations.
• Prepare schedules and reconciliations for auditors and management.
• Ensure accuracy of vendor records and support documentation.
• Maintain internal controls and documentation for federal grant transactions.
