Job summary

George Mason University is seeking an IRB Compliance Specialist to support the Institutional Review Board program. The role involves operational, administrative, and compliance duties to ensure human subjects research complies with federal/state regulations and institutional policies.

Responsibilities include guiding investigators, maintaining records, and facilitating timely protocol processing while providing expert interpretation of IRB submission requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Active CIP or ability to obtain certification within two years of employment.
• Experience working in a research environment and familiarity with the IRB.
• Excellent writing skills to generate clear, precise, detailed and grammatically correct technical letters, memos, and reports.
• Strong organizational and communication skills with capacity to manage multiple priorities and high volume workload.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and manages incoming applications to ensure completeness; completes checklists and sends reminders; performs reviews of research protocols.
• Instructs and counsels investigators and research staff; explains regulations and procedures; assists with educational IRB presentations; ensures required CITI training is completed.
• Maintains complete, accurate and error-free records including IRB minutes.
