George Mason University is seeking an IRB Specialist to provide operational, administrative, and compliance support for the Institutional Review Board program. You will review human subjects research for compliance, maintain records, and facilitate communication with investigators.

The role emphasizes ensuring timely protocol processing, supporting faculty, students, and staff, and strengthening day-to-day IRB operations while protecting participants and reducing risk.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; CIP certification achievable within two years.
  • Experience in a research environment and familiarity with IRB processes.
  • Excellent written communication and ability to produce precise memos and reports.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Ability to advise investigators on federal regulations and submission requirements.
  • Proficiency with multimedia hardware/software, incl. Windows and productivity tools.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and manages incoming IRB applications, ensures completeness, and tracks approvals.
  • Instructs and counsels investigators on regulations; conducts training and maintains records.
  • Maintains complete, accurate IRB minutes and documentation.
