Job summary

Sonoran Desert Institute is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to join our Curriculum Team and shape career-focused online education for our DEAC-accredited school, promoting practical, industry-driven learning.

You will collaborate with subject matter experts to design courses, build modules in Canvas, create assessments, source media, ensure accessibility, and support QA processes while applying adult learning theory.

Qualifications

• Three years of professional instructional design experience.
• Experience in higher education is required.
• Advanced knowledge of adult learning principles and distance instruction.
• Practical experience with LMS and course-authoring software.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with independent follow-through.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze learning needs and objectives.
• Design and develop online courses, assessments and media-rich modules.
• Create course shells, syllabi and LMS content using Canvas tools.
• Source external media and ensure proper attribution.
• Support QA processes and align content with learning objectives.
• Stay current with instructional design trends and participate in meetings.
