Job summary

Virtua Health is seeking a part-time medical coder to codes and abstracts hospital records across inpatient, observation, and ED encounters. You will apply ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT-4 coding and work within UHDDS guidelines to support accurate DRG assignments.

This remote-friendly role requires MS Windows proficiency and familiarity with electronic health records. Minimum two years inpatient coding experience is needed; on-site testing in Marlton, NJ precedes interviews.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years inpatient records coding experience.
• Ability to perform functions in a Microsoft Windows environment.
• Detail oriented with high accuracy.
• Ability to make sound decisions.
• Demonstrate good communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience with an electronic health record system preferred.

Responsibilities

• Code inpatient, observation, outpatient surgery, invasive outpatients, and emergency department records.
• Accurately use ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, and encoder per AHA/AHIMA/UHDDS guidelines.
• Sequence principal diagnosis and procedures per documentation and UHDDS definitions.
• Verify DRG assignments using current DRG knowledge.
• Ensure data elements conform to federal/state regulations and guidelines.
• Maintain documentation and support performance improvement initiatives.
