Job summary

Zekai is seeking an Inpatient Medical Coder for a 100% remote contractor role in the United States. You will apply facility coding expertise to train AI systems, ensuring high-quality, real-world input for model learning and reasoning.

Responsibilities include reviewing records for ICD-10-CM/PCS accuracy, determining diagnoses, and ensuring data integrity while supporting AI-generated notes and code suggestions. A CIC/CCS/RHIA/RHIT credential and inpatient coding experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Active coding certifications such as CIC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT or another AHIMA/AAPC credential.
• Inpatient ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS coding experience, including DRG, MCC/CC, and POA concepts.
• Access to current ICD-10 code sets and guidelines, familiarity with AHA Coding Clinic.
• Currently working in inpatient coding, clinical documentation improvement, or a related role.
• Availability of at least 10 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Review inpatient medical records to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding per guidelines.
• Determine principal and secondary diagnoses for full admission and assess MCCs, CCs, and procedures’ effect on DRG.
• Review clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness, flag provider queries.
• Evaluate AI-generated notes, summaries, and code suggestions against inpatient coding standards.
• Identify and resolve coding discrepancies to protect data integrity.
• Enter and validate AI-generated patient information in inpatient encoding systems.

Education

CIC/CCS/RHIA/RHIT certification

Inpatient ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS coding experience (DRG/MCC/CC/POA)
