Job summary

Virtua Health in Marlton, NJ is seeking a Medical Records Coder to review and abstract hospital records across inpatient, observation, outpatient surgery and ED to ensure accurate coding. You will apply ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4 and UHDDS guidelines, collaborate with CDI staff, and maintain DRG accuracy and data integrity.

Requirements include two years inpatient coding experience and Windows proficiency; AHIMA CCS certification is required for hires after 10/1/2025.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years inpatient records coding experience.
• Ability to perform in a Microsoft Windows environment.
• Detail oriented with high accuracy in coding and data entry.
• Experience with an electronic health record system preferred.

Responsibilities

• Code all significant diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4, and encoder per AHA/AHIMA/UHDDS guidelines.
• Code for Inpatient, Observation, Outpatient Surgery and ED; determine principal diagnoses and procedures.
• Validate DRG assignments and ensure accurate abstracting for compliant data.
• abstract data elements accurately into the computer system and support AR goals.
• Maintain department competencies and participate in performance improvement activities.
