Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking an experienced clinical coder/auditor responsible for ensuring accurate coding and data integrity. The role involves leading coding audits, educating staff, and maintaining compliance with coding standards across inpatient and outpatient coding practices.

The position requires four years of hospital coding or auditing experience, familiarity with ICD-10-CM and CPT, and knowledge of 3M coding tools. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of hospital coding or auditing experience required.
• Experience coding/auditing in a level 1 trauma facility/academic teaching facility strongly preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles and guidelines.
• Extensive knowledge of 3M Coding applications and resolving coding edits.
• Working knowledge of reimbursement systems and regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding, and billing.
• Knowledge of database applications and spreadsheet design.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular coding audits and coordinate ongoing monitoring of coding accuracy.
• Develop and coordinate educational sessions for coding staff on documentation and accurate coding.
• Serve as a resource for coding staff on organization-wide coding standards and guidelines.
• Design audit tools to monitor coding accuracy.
• Keep abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
• Conduct trend analyses to identify patterns in coding practices.
• Adhere to AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding and official guidelines.
• Ensure safe care to patients and adherence to policies within budget and time management.
• Promote professional growth and act as preceptor/mentor to staff.
• Demonstrate commitment to compassionate, personalized experiences for patients and colleagues.
