Job summary

Atlantic Health System seeks an Inpatient Health Information Management (HIM) Coder for a remote, part-time role (~22.5 hours per week). Responsibilities include coding inpatient records with full capture of diagnoses, POA indicators, and procedures, and abstracting UHDDS elements.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding for inpatient records.
• Understanding of DRGs and their impact on reimbursement.
• Anatomy & physiology knowledge relevant to coding.
• Experience with EPIC and CAC systems is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Code inpatient records with full capture of diagnoses, POA indicators, and procedures; abstract relevant UHDDS elements.
• Review CDI notes and collaborate with the CDI Team to optimize code capture and CMS-compliant reimbursement.
• Initiate physician queries when documentation is insufficient to support codes.
• Complete coding for all discharges with meeting productivity and accuracy targets; cover inpatient settings including acute, psych, hospice, and newborn.
• Monitor WQs to clear cases promptly and avoid >3 day delays; stay updated on coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
